200,000 US$ Licence Plate

Number 8 is a number of lucky in China and many Asian countries, in China, this number is pronounced as "ba", and it sounds like "fa", which means "get rich". This makes many things with number 8 being sold at a higher price. For example a phone number with a good combination of 8, will be more expensive than other numbers. Even though chinese are getting richer, a 200,000 US$ car is still a luxury to many, this is why the news that a man from Zhumadian, Henan who bought a licence plate for 200,000 US$ became a big news and suprised many people.

This happened on 4th of this month, when 57 cars which already had licence plates were being sold, among those cars some of them had special plate numbers, such as: 1234, 5678, 8888, and 9999. The 55 cars sold that day sold for a total of one million and eight hundred thousand US$, among them two of them with plate number 8888 and 9999 went for a higher price.

Later it was known that the money will go to the social projects which will help people who had road accidents. Another province of Nanyang did the same thing and a plate number 6666 went for 90,000 US$, one with 7777 went for 166,666 US$, and the one with number 8888 went for 125,000 US$.
